Baja Canvas &
Upholstery
Our Story Started with One Man and a Sewing Machine
Our story began long before Baja Canvas & Upholstery had a name, back when our founder was a young man in Tijuana, learning upholstery the old-school way: hands-on, patient, and guided by a mentor who took him under his wing.

He started working in upholstery at a young age, first alongside his mentor and later on his own. By 18, he had opened his own small auto upholstery shop in his colonia, taking pride in every seat, stitch, and repair. What began as an automotive upholstery business quickly became a craft he poured himself into, day in and day out.

In his early 20s, after earning his work permit, he brought his skills north to San Diego. He continued taking on upholstery jobs throughout the city, building a reputation for quality work and reliability.
Around the age of 23, he expanded into the marine industry, where everything truly came together. Drawing from his years of experience in automotive upholstery, he learned to fabricate boat covers, windows, enclosures, and marine seating, mastering the specialized demands of life on the water.

From a small studio on Morena Boulevard, to opening a shop at Driscoll Mission bay, to our current warehouse in Ocean Beach, the business has grown step by step, always grounded in craftsmanship, honesty, and hard work. Today, with our newly opened office on Harbor Island, we’re proud to serve the boating community with a dedicated space for consultations, estimates, and client care, while continuing fabrication at our private warehouse.

For over 25 years, Baja Canvas & Upholstery has remained a family-run business built on experience, resilience, and pride in our work. What started with one man and a sewing machine has become a trusted name in marine canvas and upholstery, and we’re just getting started.
